The AOL Sports blog has a nice post about the Big East money distribution (sparked by an article here). I really appreciated the author's thoughts (Charles Rich). A couple of things quote-worthy for background:
Two Football players have been dismissed from the team today. Junior cornerback Lamar Alston of Paducah and sophomore defensive end Jonathan Holston of Tallahassee, Fla., were cut loose from the University of Louisville football team, according to U of L head coach Steve Kragthorpe, for unspecified reasons. Though no clue was given, rumors point to drug involvement.
Alston played in 12 games and recorded six tackles in 2006, while Holston played in just three contests because of injury and was credited with one tackle.
I thought this was great. A reader wrote in to the CJ with the following request:
Do you think it might be possible to do a few more articles on Billy Gillispie? As a fan of the hometown Cardinals, I just don't feel that six stories a week on UK's new coach is enough for me. I think we all want to know more. How about some front-page stories on things like:
1. How much Billy likes to win.
2. Has blue really been his favorite color all along?
3. How passionate is he about UK compared to the average fan, really?
I just got an email forwarded to me from the Cardinal Caravan. It's a series of free events around town / the state where you can meet UofL coaches and atheletes. (I don't think that any one coach or student is guaranteed at any one event but someone should show. If you have attended in the past or know anything more, please either post it in the comments below or contact us.). Here's what I hear:
All locations are FREE to attend with food and drinks available.
I don't know who Athlon is. It doesn't really matter. The main point is that I'm ready for football. I'm glad we're good enough to be mentioned in this stuff. They have us 3rd in the Big East behind WVU and Rutgers but their rankings have yet to be revealed (they're doing one / day for a couple weeks).

I'm impressed with how hefty the details are on each school. About 10 times what I was expecting when I clicked through. There was nothing shocking and they seem to agree that Louisville will be pretty solid next year. I'd encourage you to look through it. Here's the summary for UofL:
2006 overall record:
12-1
Conference record:
6-1
Returning starters
Offense: 7, Defense: 5, Kicker/punter: 2
Top returners
I don't usually pay much attention to sports that don't rhyme with rasketball and sootball, but I was really impressed by the Cards track and field individuals this year. The Cj talks about two indoor champions on our squad this year, looking to repeat outdoors next week:
Tone Belt and Andre Black love to compete against one another. So they like the idea of potentially going head-to-head for another national title next month.
If you visit http://www.papajohnscardinalstadiumexpansion.com/pages/loge.html and click on 2 you'll see pricing for "loge seating" in the new arena. These are outdoors, but covered with heat and a/c apparently. The initial donation to be eligible... $7,500 - $12,500 PER SEAT. That buys you the RIGHT to make an annual 'donation', which in turn, buys you the RIGHT to purchase tickets. YIKES!!! I'm going to go the bargain route and find a scalper I guess. At the 50 yard line, the price per ticket (6 games) for year 1 works out to $2461.67. That's per game. Murray State?
Not sure what the President of U of K said but Eric Crawford of the courier journal did not like it click link below
