6-foot-9 Samuels was in town this weekend and must have liked what he saw

The University of Louisville men's basketball program landed one of its biggest recruits in years last night when Samardo Samuels picked the Cardinals over North Carolina and Connecticut.

The 6-foot-9, 230-pound Samuels, who plays at St. Benedict Prep in Newark, N.J., is rated one of the top 10 players in the Class of 2008 by some analysts. He made an unofficial visit to U of L last weekend.

ESPN Feature on Louisville Sports

The other school completed the trifecta Sunday -- and in the process completed arguably the most remarkable decade of all-around progress in the modern era of college sports. That would be Louisville, which has followed a Final Four trip in 2005 with the first BCS game in school history in January and now the first CWS berth after pummeling Oklahoma State in the super regional.

Brohm Projected to Go Number 1

I'll preface the rest of this with the statement that this ranking is a good 4 months from meaning anything at all, but...

The four-letter-network has Louisville's own Brian Brohm slated to go #1 in the 2008 draft. Here's the little bit you can read for free:

1. Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville (6-3, 223)
Polished pure passer in the Jim Kelly mold.

Cards to the World Series, Celebration Tuesday at 4:30

The Cardinal Nine won big on Sunday and are heading to the World Series. A celebration for the team's advancement has been set for Fourth Street Live in downtown Louisville on Tuesday, June 12 at 4:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. The celebration is sponsored by the University of Louisville and the Mayor's Office. The team will sign autographs immediately after the ceremony. The Cardinal Bird and spirit groups will be in attendance.

Was the Sporting News Flip-Flop Alcohol Induced?

After featuring Brohm on their cover a few weeks ago, the Sporting News decided to predict that UK will beat Louisville this year in football. "KENTUCKY OVER LOUISVILLE. The suffering in this series has gone on too long for the Wildcats. Is Andre Woodson the best QB in the state? Hmmm."

University of Louisville Baseball Team is Still Alive, Will Host Super-Regional

I've been resisting writing about non-basket & football UofL teams because I don't really follow them. I feel like a bandwagon fan when I get hyped up and follow other sports if and only if they succeed in the postseason. Then I read an extraordinary post at the CardChronicle blog about the baseball team and felt like it was OK to cheer them on.
