The CJ reported yesterday that Tyler Wimsatt, a redshirt freshman RB / QB from Owensboro High School, was dismissed from the University of Louisville football team by coach Kragthorpe for a violation of unspecified team rules.
I don't know what team rules were violated but it seems like this sort of thing is often drug related (when they don't say what happened but just that they were dismissed). If that is the case, it also stands to reason that this wasn't his first failed test. I'm all about Kragthorpe laying down the law and, as I said previously when Lamar Alston and Jonathan Holston were suspended last month, I find it encouraging that a so called "player's coach" seems serious about discipline.
The 6-foot-1, 230-pound Wimsatt came out of Owensboro High School as a running back/linebacker and was named honorable mention All-State as a senior by The Courier-Journal. He earned All-District, All-Big 8 and Team MVP honors as a junior at Owensboro HS and was named Owensboro’s MVP. He was a solid recruit for us but not a star. I think we'll really know how serious Coach Krag is when a starter gets in trouble. If he's consistent, I would think that the players would respond and really respect that, but if he only dismisses people to free up scholarships, shame on us.
No evidence of drugs
No one said there were drugs involved. That's just speculation.
